How the Ronin is built.

Full-face ballistic protection is an exercise in managing three competing quantities: protected area, mass, and the wearer's ability to see, breathe and shoot. Here is how each is handled.

01 — Ballistics

Level IIIA, across the whole face.

The Ronin shell is certified to NIJ Standard-0106.01 Level IIIA. That envelope covers the common handgun threat set, including .357 SIG at 1,470 ft/s and .44 Magnum at 1,430 ft/s, and it covers the face, not just the crown.

Level IIIA is a handgun and fragmentation rating. It is not rifle-rated; no aramid helmet of this mass is.

02 — Materials

Aramid, and what it buys you.

The shell is a ballistic aramid composite. Aramid stops rounds by spreading load across a woven network rather than resisting at a point, and it carries a second property that matters in breaching and vehicle work.

≈ 1.0 kg shell frame

The ballistic frame itself is roughly a kilogram. Everything above that figure is plates, optics and hardware you chose to add.

Flame resistant to 1000 °C

Aramid does not melt or support combustion. The shell holds structural integrity through brief flame exposure.

Segmented layup

Overlapping panels let the shell flex across joints instead of transmitting the whole impulse into one rigid piece.

03 — Load Path

Where the weight actually sits.

A full-face helmet that hangs its mass forward will wreck a wearer's neck over a long detail. The Ronin routes load rearward into the back helmet panel and forward into a single-piece inner suspension frame, pulling the centre of gravity back toward the wearer's own axis of rotation.

04 — Modularity

Every part is a part.

The Ronin is not a moulded shell with accessories bolted on. It is an assembly of discrete components, each removable and replaceable.

Panels & plates

Back helmet panel, crown extender, top head panel, side plates, cheek plates and mandible: every one a separate Level IIIA part.

Optics

Ballistic lenses

Twin lens assembly in clear, smoked, high contrast yellow, high contrast red or marine blue. Replaceable independently of the shell.

Mounting

Rails & shroud

The NVG shroud sits on the crown panel; the 20 mm rails and their risers are formed into the suspension frame and repeated on the side plates.

Airflow

Ventilation

Twin crown fans in a ducted frame under the vented panel, plus micro jet defoggers in the lens frames. One 9 V cell, about two hours.

Ballistic protective equipment is export-controlled in most jurisdictions. Devtac will confirm the certification documentation and any licensing requirements applicable to your destination before an order is accepted.
